Our Mission
-
To improve early literacy for all Connecticut children by providing books, by helping families share books with their babies beginning at birth, by encouraging language development, and by promoting an awareness of existing literacy resources.
-
Our Vision
-
- Every child in Connecticut will own books and will take an active interest in reading.
- Every family will understand the critical importance of early literacy efforts and take an active role in their child’s literacy development.
-
Our Values
-
- Children are born with the ability to learn and the skills to embrace language.
- Parents are their child’s first and most important teacher.
- When books are provided to families (parents or adult caregivers), along with appropriate developmental guidance, they will be more likely to read to their children.
- The moment of birth is a key teachable moment for parents.
- Being read to and owning books are critical features of every child’s development.
- Literacy is important to all families in Connecticut regardless of economic means.
