Read to Grow provides free new and gently used books to children and families all over Connecticut. Unfortunately we cannot provide books to those outside of the state at this time.

Read to Grow provides books for organizations to distribute to children. In keeping with our mission, books provided by Read to Grow must be given directly to children to take home to build their personal libraries. Read to Grow can no longer fill teacher or school requests to build classroom, school or lending libraries.

• There is currently an 8-12 week waiting period for organization and program requests. We appreciate your patience and advance planning.

• Read to Grow provides free children’s books only within Connecticut. Unfortunately, we cannot provide books to those outside of the state at this time.

All of the books distributed by our Books for Kids program and generously donated by individuals, groups and businesses in the communities we serve. Our warehouse bookshelves are continually replenished by generous individuals and community groups that collect and donate books.

• Most of the donations come from book drives run by schools, scout troops, small businesses, corporations and civic organizations. Information on how to run a successful book drive is available in our Book Drive Toolkit, and when necessary, we help transport the collected books to our Branford warehouse.

Each year volunteers generously donate more than 10,000 hours to Read to Grow. Volunteers bring a wealth of skills and expertise to our organization and help with everything from administrative tasks and clerical duties to visiting with families in our partner hospitals.

• Volunteers help with answering the phones, data entry, preparing packets, sorting, labeling and packing books. Volunteers make deliveries and help with special events and fundraisers.
